What should be included in a detailed invoice?

There is a minimum requirement for which details must be specified on your bill, to make it easier for you to check your costs. An itemized invoice should report the charges and consumption for the billing period in the manner that follows from the applicable price lists and other contractual terms between the operator and the consumer.

Page summary

Your phone or broadband bill should show what you are paying for, such as calls, messages, and data. You have the right to a detailed bill at no extra cost. If you wish, you can request a simpler bill. The operator must show certain costs, but does not need to show details of each call.

Content on a Specified Invoice

If your operator bills you for a telephony service or broadband service, the invoice must be specified. This means you have the right to receive a detailed bill for your calls, your messages, and data usage.

If you do not want a specified bill, you have the right to request an unspecified bill from your operator.

The operator may not charge any extra fee beyond the agreed invoice fee to provide you with a specified bill.

If you suspect that the operator is charging extra to specify the bill, you should contact the operator and ask for an explanation.

It is the Swedish Post and Telecom Authority that is the authority ensuring that operators follow the rules on specified bills.

The specified invoice should, where applicable, at least contain:

  • consumption-related charges
  • one-time charges
  • recurring charges
  • information on consumption in volume or time if unlimited consumption is not included according to the agreement

A specified invoice does NOT show:

  • Free calls (which usually start with the numbers 020 or 0200), such as calls to BRIS and women’s shelters, must not be listed on the bill.

However, if you want to obtain a more detailed specification, such as each individual call made, there is no obligation for the operator to provide such a specification.
