A bundled purchase consists of at least two components

A package purchase is called an agreement that consists of at least two parts. It can be an agreement that combines different services such as broadband, telephony, TV subscriptions, and various additional services. If you have entered into an agreement for a package purchase, several of your rights, and the operator’s obligations, apply to the entire package. This applies to purchases where at least one of the services in the package is an internet or telephony service. Requirements set for agreements with consumers regarding telephony or internet services are therefore also set for other services in the same package, such as TV services. For an agreement that combines a service with hardware on credit purchase, such as a mobile phone and a subscription, partially different rules apply.

Page summary

A package purchase means that you sign up for several services, such as broadband, telephony, TV, or streaming, in one and the same agreement – sometimes together with hardware like a mobile phone. The same rules apply to all services in your package, and you can never be bound for more than 24 months. The notice period can be at most one month. If part of the service malfunctions or the terms change, you can terminate the entire package. Keep in mind that it is the operator’s responsibility to inform you about your rights.

When do the rules on package purchases apply?

  • If the agreement has been entered into from June 3, 2022
  • If at least one of the services in the package is a broadband or telephony service
  • If it is the same operator providing all parts of the package
  • If the agreement is considered to be within the framework of one and the same agreement, a closely related or associated agreement. This also applies to services or “terminal equipment” – hardware – that is added to such an agreement at a later date. There is no limitation on which other services may be included in a package purchase
  • If the hardware in the package is “terminal equipment”, such as a mobile phone or a modem. Hardware such as headphones, speakers, televisions, or computer equipment is not included.
Note! It does not matter how your agreement is named by your operator or what is stated in the operator’s terms and conditions for the rules on package purchases to apply. It also does not matter if the service costs anything or not. The very purpose of the rules is to reduce the risk of you being locked into an agreement and to make it easier for you to switch operators.

Maximum binding period of 24 months on the original agreement even with additions

Each subscription part of your package must have a maximum binding period of 24 months. Even if you add a service or hardware later to a package purchase, you can never have a longer binding period than 24 months in total. Therefore, it is not allowed for the operator to extend the binding period when you add services or equipment to the original agreement unless you have explicitly agreed to it.

Note, however, that hardware can be signed separately as a credit purchase with a longer repayment period than 24 months.

Maximum notice period of one month on the entire agreement

The notice period must not be longer than one month. If you have an agreement with binding period, the operator may not require you to terminate your agreement earlier than one month before the agreement period expires. Even when the agreement transitions to an indefinite agreement when the binding period expires, you have the right to terminate the agreement at any time with a maximum notice period of one month without any cost other than for the use of the service.

If the operator changes terms for only one part of an indefinite agreement

If the operator changes the terms for one of the services in the package, you have the right to terminate the entire agreement.

Terminate the package early, for example, due to a fault in one of the services

If you have the right to terminate part of the package early, for example, due to interruption, other fault, or delivery delay, you have the right to simultaneously terminate all parts of the package purchase.
