Frequently asked questions

Who is responsible for ensuring I have phone and internet access?

When it comes to access to basic internet (at least 10 Mbit/s by law), most households and businesses today have coverage with mobile broadband via 4G, 5G, or satellite.

For those who cannot get telephony or a connection that allows 10 Mbit/s, the Swedish Post and Telecom Authority, PTS, can procure broadband connections upon your application.

However, before you contact PTS, there are a few things you can do yourself:

  • Check with different operators if they have coverage where you live.
  • There are now different types of antennas that provide better coverage at a reasonable price in electronics stores.
  • Satellite reception is now available via Starlink at a significantly lower cost than before.
  • It is not always the closest mast that gives you the best coverage. Check if there are other masts that, even if they are further away, can provide you with better coverage.
  • You may need to check both coverage and capacity. If the operator you prefer has good coverage, they may still have poor capacity (many subscribers on the same mast).
  • An operator with slightly worse coverage may, for the opposite reason, have better capacity.
