Wangiri

Wangiri scam is a type of phone fraud where scammers call a large number of people but hang up after just one ring. The purpose is to get the recipient to call back the number, which is often an expensive pay number (e.g., international or premium number). If you call back, you can be charged high fees, and the scammers make money from the call.

The word “wangiri” comes from Japanese and means roughly “one ring and hang up”.
