Be cautious if you are going to buy a mobile

Mobile phones are sold that can be used to make regular calls, but cannot reach the emergency number 112 through the operator’s own network. Therefore, be careful if you are thinking of buying a mobile phone.

Currently, it is the PTS and the operators who have information about which models lack the ability to reach the emergency number 112 through the operator’s own network. That information has not been made public. Additionally, the Consumer Agency has received signals that other companies selling mobile phones have also not been informed about which models are affected. Therefore, there are significant risks that consumers will buy phones that will then not be usable.

The Consumer Agency cannot prohibit these models from being sold. However, the Consumer Agency can require companies to clearly inform consumers that the current phones do not work in the networks.

If you plan to buy a phone in the near future, the Consumer Agency’s advice is to first contact the operators to confirm that the specific model you are interested in buying will actually work in the networks.
