Frequently asked questions

What should I keep in mind when using my mobile phone or tablet abroad?

  • Check that you can use your subscription or prepaid card abroad. The operator is not obliged to offer roaming.
  • Some numbers may have a higher rate and these are not covered by the regulated roaming prices, such as premium calls, calls to directory assistance, and calls to certain authorities and organizations (equivalent to 077 numbers in Sweden).
  • Even if a number is a toll-free number in the country you are in, “free number”, it may cost money if you call it from a Swedish subscription.
  • If you surf within the EU, the operator is not allowed to charge any extra fee as a starting point. However, the operator has the right to limit the data volume to some extent and if you exceed this, you should receive a message that the data volume is used up and what it costs to buy more.
  • If you are outside the EU, it can be very expensive to surf, call, and even receive calls. There we recommend that you turn off data roaming and your voicemail to avoid unnecessarily high costs. If you are unsure, contact your operator for information on how to do it.
  • On board ships and airplanes, the mobile may connect to a satellite. Here too, we recommend that you activate flight mode to avoid unnecessarily high costs.
  • Be observant if you are near a border to a country outside the EU (e.g., Greece/Turkey) as you risk connecting to the “wrong” mast.
