What is roaming?
Roaming means that you connect to a foreign operator’s network when you use your Swedish subscription for calls or mobile data abroad.
Operators are not allowed to charge extra fees for roaming services used when you travel within the EU. According to the main rule, it should not cost more than at home to call, text, or surf when you are in another EU country.
Note! As of January 1, 2021, the United Kingdom is no longer part of the EU and is not covered by the EU’s roaming regulations. Therefore, those planning to travel to the United Kingdom should contact their operator to check what applies in their specific case.
However, operators may limit the amount of services you can access at the same price as at home if there is a risk of abuse or abnormal use. For example, it should not be profitable to sign up for a subscription in a country other than the one you permanently reside in. Such a limitation is called a fair use policy.
When it comes to countries outside the EU, there is no regulation on what it may cost to call and surf. Operators must inform about prices for mobile telephony and surfing in countries outside the EU. Note that it also costs to receive calls.
Roaming does not include calls to foreign numbers from Sweden – international calls. Price lists for such calls should be available on your operator’s website.
