Frequently asked questions

How much data do I need?

You usually pay for a certain amount of data each month. If it runs out, you need to buy more data to continue browsing. Check the terms for the cost of buying more data and if you can carry over the extra data you purchased to the next month.

If you mostly read newspapers and send emails, you can generally have a subscription with a smaller amount of data included. However, if you watch moving images (such as videos and movies), stream music, or listen to radio or podcasts, larger data amounts and higher speeds are required.

If you surf a lot, we recommend that you enter into a fixed-price agreement so that you can keep track of costs. How much data you use depends on what you do. Here are some examples:

  • Browsing the web or checking email uses relatively little, depending on what you look at, you can usually expect around 100–200 MB per hour.
  • FaceTime uses about 200 MB per hour
  • An audiobook or podcast uses about 40-60 MB/hour
  • Spotify uses 10-150 MB/hour depending on the audio quality chosen
  • A streamed movie corresponds to about 250 MB/hour
  • When it comes to games, the data requirement varies depending on the type of game. The hungriest are “first person shooters,” or FPS games, which consume between 150 and 300 MB per hour. Other popular games are Minecraft and League of Legends, both of which use around 40 MB per hour, while Mobile Legends and Hearthstone only use a modest three MB per hour.
  • Different social media use different amounts. A compilation of what, for example, TikTok, Youtube, and Facebook, among others, use can be found on Bredbandsval’s website.

Please note that the figures are approximate and should only be used to give an idea of the amount of data consumed.
